RISE OF THE GUARDIANS

RYAN: I love a good holiday movie that comes out at the holidays.

CAROLINE: Does this one qualify as good?

RYAN: It does.  And it’s actually not that much of a holiday movie, apart from having holiday characters in it.  The theme is actually more about good versus evil and believing in something but not necessarily the religious faith.

CAROLINE: Interesting.  I’d assume a movie with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny might have had an overtone.

RYAN: Right? But it really doesn’t.  And I was really into it.  I even got choked up at the end.

CAROLINE: Wait. Did you cry?

RYAN: Well not like tears streaming down my face but I did mist over at one point.  It got to me.

CAROLINE: Oh I understand.  I’ve wept like a baby in movies.  It’s fun sometimes, when not embarrassing.

RYAN: Well I loved the message that touched me.  A little boy has a line at the end that just got me and I still remember it.  I don’t wanna give it away but it’s definitely a great quote from a movie.

CAROLINE: I love that… even though I don’t do animated movies.

RYAN: The animation and 3D are great in this.  You could tell even from the trailer that this was good stuff and it really is.

CAROLINE: How are the voices?

RYAN: Good.  I mean, what isn’t Hugh Jackman great in?

CAROLINE: That’s a rhetorical question, I’m sure.

RYAN: He’s super funny in this as the Easter Bunny.  And I really enjoyed everyone.  Chris Pine as Jack Frost is great too.

CAROLINE: And then you have Isla Fisher as the Tooth Fairy.  She’s usually comedic.

RYAN: She wasn’t too funny in this but it didn’t really call for that.

CAROLINE: What about Jude Law?

RYAN: He was awesome as the Boogeyman.

CAROLINE: Yeah I could see that.

RYAN: It’s a really original take on the physical depictions of these mythical creatures and I really dug it.  They were all cool and fierce in their own ways.

CAROLINE: Was this a musical?

RYAN: No and that might have even improved it but it’s definitely the type of family film that can be enjoyed by adults too.  That’s the litmus test, isn’t it?  I saw this with about forty people from my movie club, a mix of kids and adults, and everybody liked it.

I loved this movie! The animation was unbelievable ~ you need to see it in 3D. It was a fun movie that held my attention 100%. Sometimes I just plain like to see a movie that is pure fantasy. The depiction of the characters is awesome. Sandman looked very different than he ever had in my imagination. This one had a plus because the story-line shows everyone young or old that when you think something is right or you really want to do something you should go for it. If it's important, never give up! I agree with Ryan about one of the last lines in movie ~ very touching, misty eyes for sure. It's a family movie but may be a little too long for really young kids. Plus the boogeyman may scare them as well as some of the things that happen to the guardians. SEE IT ~ big screen & 3D will make it more enjoyable than renting it.
