2011 SAG Awards

CAROLINE: It’s time for the most self-congratulatory awards show of the year! The SAG Awards were tonight, and let’s just say there were no big surprises.

RYAN: Well, there was one – I assumed The Fighter was totally going to win for Best Cast.

CAROLINE: I did too! That would have been much more deserved. But you can’t underestimate the power of Harvey Weinstein. Now The King’s Speech has a real shot at the Oscar for Best Picture.

RYAN: Wasn’t it weird to see Hilary Swank at an awards show this year? She hasn’t been recognized by any of the other major awards so far.

CAROLINE: She wasn’t looking her best tonight either; that color was not right for her. But I though Julianna Margulies and Sofia Vergara looked fab. Kyra Sedgwick too; she’s been killing it lately.

RYAN: Natalie Portman’s bump was in full effect.

CAROLINE: You know who looked really pretty and unfrumpy for a change? Tina Fey.

RYAN: She did look better than usual. And the evening didn’t disappoint with its kickoff – those pretentious “I’m an actor” speeches they give.

CAROLINE: At least they were funnier than usual this year. Jack McBrayer’s got balls for making that joke about shoplifting with Winona in the room! Here’s a list of the winners in the movie categories:

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
The King’s Speech

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Colin Firth, The King’s Speech

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
Natalie Portman, Black Swan

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Christian Bale, The Fighter

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
Melissa Leo,
The Fighter
