2007 Golden Globe Predictions

RYAN: Caroline?

CAROLINE: Ryan?

RYAN: It’s that time of year and your Golden Globes have never looked more voluptuous.

CAROLINE: Oh Ryan! I’m blushing.

RYAN: I’m so excited about the Golden Globes!

CAROLINE: So excited! And I don’t know if I’m more excited about the Globes themselves or the red carpet.

RYAN: Oh I know. That’s always super fun. And of course, we’ll be on hand… and by that I mean blogging about it every step of the way.

CAROLINE: (laughs) I really can’t wait to see who’s wearing what. Sometimes the dresses at the Golden Globes are even better than at the Oscars.

RYAN: ‘Tis true. It’s often a more eventful show. So let’s predict who we think is going to win Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture.

CAROLINE: This is a really tough category. Without a doubt, Ben Affleck (Hollywoodland) doesn’t stand a chance.

RYAN: Right.

CAROLINE: Do you think the buzz is going with Eddie Murphy (Dreamgirls)?

RYAN: I do and he’s gonna win it. He was fabulous.

CAROLINE: That would not surprise me at all. I think Mark Walhberg (The Departed) and Jack Nicholson (The Departed) will cancel each other out. They were both great but that’s Leo’s movie.

RYAN: Mmm hmm. Brad Pitt (Babel) was brilliant. He actually made me feel something for the first time in his career. But Eddie’s a Hollywood veteran whose time has come.

CAROLINE: I would love nothing more than for Adriana Barraza (Babel) to win Supporting Actress. She was absolutely amazing and she made me cry very hard whilst watching that movie.

RYAN: She was insanely good.

CAROLINE: But much like in the Supporting Actor category, Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) has the buzz and might take it.

RYAN: And honestly, I wouldn’t feel bad if she wins, ‘cos she was outstanding. She was actually the lead in the film and she was a powerhouse. This category is all her.

CAROLINE: I couldn’t disagree more. She had a good voice but her acting was nothing compared to Cate Blanchett (Notes on a Scandal), Adriana Barraza (Babel) and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel).

RYAN: It’s a tough competition. Actor in a Musical or Comedy?

CAROLINE: This category is a complete and total joke. None of these people will be nominated for an Oscar. But I would love to see Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) win tonight. He was brilliant.

RYAN: Me too. But I think it will go to Will Ferrell. Or Johnny Depp who has been nominated an uber amount of times but has yet to score.

CAROLINE: Ugh, but his movie stunk. What about Actor in a Drama?

RYAN: What about it?

CAROLINE: I would love to see Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed) win. Wouldn’t you?

RYAN: Yes. Actress in a Musical or Comedy?

CAROLINE: This is a strange category given that both Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada) and Beyonce (Dreamgirls) were actually playing supporting roles in their movies.

RYAN: I know!

CAROLINE: Could Meryl win?

RYAN: I would love to see someone who we’ve always said is award-worthy win it – Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine).

CAROLINE: She’s amazing.

RYAN: …in everything she does. Or, if we don’t hold the film against her, Annette Bening (Running with Scissors).

CAROLINE: I’d rather see Toni get it.

RYAN: Actress in a Drama? Clearly, I’m pulling for Kate Winslet (Little Children). She was phenom… as an American in an rare and intense role.

CAROLINE: She was amazing but that Judi Dench (Notes on a Scandal) blew m’mind!

RYAN: She was great too.

CAROLINE: This category has the most deserving nominees.

RYAN: Now Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy?

CAROLINE: We may have to go with “Little Miss Sunshine” for this one. Although “Borat” was brilliant too.

RYAN: OMG. You’re crazy. “Dreamgirls!!” We’re talking about Best Picture here. You’ve gotta think overall. The look, the costumes, the cinematography, the scope and sweep of it…

CAROLINE: We don’t agree on this one. I’d say “Little Miss Sunshine” or “Borat” should win.

RYAN: “Borat” wasn’t even a movie. It was an exercise in improv comedy for two hours.

CAROLINE: And it was brilliant.

RYAN: True. Motion Picture – Drama?

CAROLINE: “Bobby” is a joke.

RYAN: Someone blew someone to get that nomination.

CAROLINE: I’d say either “Babel” or “The Departed” deserves to win. And they were my two favorite films of the year.

RYAN: I’m “Little Children” all the way. It’s my favorite film of the year. But for once, I’d be happy if any of those three films won because “Babel” and “The Departed” are just as worthy.

CAROLINE: I’d be fine if any of those three get it too. If “The Queen” or “Bobby” gets it, then we know Hollywood has gone to hell in a hand basket.

RYAN: And we’ll have to write a letter to President Streep.
