2 Guns Review

RYAN: This stars Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg and at first I thought I would rather see Matt Damon in this role, instead of Mark, but ultimately I love, loved Denzel and Marky Mark together.  Surprisingly, they have some of the best buddy-chemistry you can imagine.

KEVIN: I totally thought the same but for Denzel.  This really felt like it was written for Jamie Foxx.  But Jamie was recently in White House Down so he probably chose that instead.

RYAN: I don’t know if they had any other casting in mind, but it’s interesting how we both could have seen other actors in these roles.  But I really came to love these two together.

KEVIN: Denzel automatically raises the bar in any movie, regardless of what it is.  I didn’t think this was the best role for him at the beginning but you’re right, their bromance was so great that it just made the movie.

RYAN: Yep.  It’s interesting – this really isn’t the kind of movie that would get a sequel but I feel like I want one because I like theses characters so much together, their banter, their rhythm; I’d like to see more of them.  It’s a smart, original action movie.  It is based on a graphic novel so who knows, maybe a sequel could happen if it does great at the box office.

KEVIN: A sequel would be great.  This movie left me guessing all the time.  I had some idea throughout the film about where it was going but I was only right once.  The rest of the time, it went in another direction than where I expected.  It was cool.

RYAN: The supporting cast features a very fit James Marsden and Bill Paxton is fantastic! He does a southern accent and I’m not comfortable with him in a smarmy role but he was incredible.

KEVIN: Edward James Olmos was great too.

RYAN: And Paula Patton who goes topless in this film.  She’s worked with Denzel before and they were good together too.  The action is really fantastic.  There’s a great car chase scene, some fighting and certainly a lot of tension.  It’s pretty violent at times, but it is rated R, so I’m not complaining.  It’s exciting.  I feel good walking about of it.

KEVIN: I like that it was violent and very edgy and still had a good story that you get invested into following.

RYAN: It does have some good edge.  It’s certainly a boy-movie but it’s intriguing enough that it should appeal to all audiences.

KEVIN: I agree.

RYAN: It’s also funny at times, and not in a cheesy way which can ruin an action film.  It all really works and that’s due not only to the writing, but Denzel and Marky Mark know how to sell it.  There is one exception – the time when I turned to you and said, “really?” because there was a lame Will Farrell moment.

KEVIN: I loved it.  We have different taste when it comes to comedy.

RYAN: It’s shot well.  It almost looks like a Steven Soderbergh film, from the cinematography.

KEVIN: It turned out to be a good role for Denzel.

RYAN: And for Mark.  There’s a strong script and they made the most of it.  But we didn’t see Marky Mark take his shirt off at all, which is disappointing.

KEVIN: Maybe he’ll do a Magic Mike 2 someday.

RYAN: [laughs] It’s a good, R-rated, action summer movie.  I’d even see it again and wouldn’t mind a sequel.

SEE IT
