The Internship Review

RYAN: This is the new comedy starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson from director Shawn Levy who previously brought us Date Night, the Night at the Museum movies, The Pink Panther remake, among others.

CAROLINE: I liked Date Night.  How was this one?

RYAN: I liked it a lot.  It’s funny.  There was definitely laughter throughout the audience in the screening I attended and I super-enjoyed it.

CAROLINE: That’s cool.  I’ve heard some rumblings that it’s similar to Wedding Crashers.

RYAN: Well Owen and Vince were both in that too but I actually like this one better because the theme is a bit more appealing.  It actually has a similar tone to Legally Blonde.

CAROLINE: Really? How so?

RYAN: It’s a professional underdog story.  The underestimated protagonist, romantic subplot and similar type of humor all give it that feeling.  It hits a lot of the same story beats.  That’s one of my favorite comedies ever so this one felt good too.

CAROLINE: That’s cool.  I was worried it might just be stupid boy humor with the typical cliched potty jokes.  I didn’t like the trailer.

RYAN: Not even one pandering joke.  It’s more clever than that and has an original premise for a comedy.  It’s a little bit predictable but certainly not formulaic – especially for these guys.

CAROLINE: That’s so awesome.  How is the rest of the cast?

RYAN: Really great.  Rose Byrne looks gorge and is cute in the role.  All the kids at Google are perfect.

CAROLINE: Yeah some people are calling this The Google Movie.

RYAN: Well it takes place at the headquarters and this movie makes you wanna work there!  It’s like a Disney World for corporate America.  Some making the movie compare going into Google to going to Wonderland or Oz.  And I loved all the verbology – Noogler, Googliness.

CAROLINE: [laughs’ Why am I not even surprised.

RYAN: Vince and Owen have a great bromance in the film and they’re not at all annoying like Ben Stiller or Will Farrell have become in their movies – actually Will has a sizable cameo in this movie and he’s terrific.  He’s funny just enough before becoming annoying.  I like him so much more in a small, character role lately than as leading man.

CAROLINE: Well brace yourself for Anchorman 2 later this year.

RYAN: This one is a crowd-pleaser.  It’s uplifting, funny, cute, sweet and with a good message.
